1st Generation Family-Owned Homestead
What's the saying... "empty nesters"? Well, some might say that Dawn and Doug enjoy a full nest. As their sons, Forrest and Austin, grew older they began to search for their next chapter. They had always dreamed of creating a multi-generational property where they could build cabins for their kids and grandkids to visit. In August, 2019, Dawn and Doug stumbled upon a 27-acre lot with its own lake and mountain views, that would become DD's Homestead.
Dawn and Doug, long time Boulder residents, have always had an affection for adventures. Doug, a successful software entrepreneur, and Dawn have been working together since 1993. Doug started several boot strapped software companies and Dawn managed the books and HR. They have also ventured into the real estate market as a team. For fun, the two have conquered marathons, bike races, kite surfing, dirt biking, camping and a winter relocation to Mexico.
As it turned out, 2020 was the perfect year to pursue their dream of cultivating a farm lifestyle for their family. The social distance and slowed pace of life allowed them to dive deep into learning and cultivating a family run farm. At DD's Homestead, a farmer's job is never done, something that they relish as they turn their dreams into reality.
ABOUT DD's HOMESTEAD
What's going on at the farm these days?
Well, the bees are busy pollinating the veggie garden, then resting at night in their hand painted bee boxes by the lake. The ducks are about to move into their new waterfront home. The chickens are busy laying their eggs and roaming the farm yard by day. Their delicious eggs are available at the Farm Stand! Pepper, Pippa, Salt and Shaker, the resident goats, are now getting along famously and seem to be at the top of the homestead pecking order. Forrest built them a beautiful gated home where they are happy to bang heads and eat most things that come their way. Fric, Frac, This and That & The Other Thing are our resident Scottish Highland steers. They roam the pastures day and night, doing a beautiful job of clearing the land. The fishing club members are enjoying the bounties of the lake, pulling out bass, crappie and carp. Dawn, Doug and Forrest are busy doing farm chores most days if you ever want to stop by and say hello!
